Sometimes I Wish I Lived in a Commercial

On occasion I want to live in a commercial.

In this commercial, the sky is streaked pink and blue

The sun has just started to go down past the horizon

We pull off of the Pacific Coast Highway

On to a huge stretch of beach no one else knows about.

I have yellow terry cloth shorts on, embroidered with daisies,

And a magenta bikini top.

My friends are there with me,

And one of them finds sea glass that has washed up on the shore

A piece so old it is completely worn smooth, but still here.

Right down the line by Gerry Raferty plays on a speaker one of us brought

We smile and laugh

And watch the sun go down

As the Pacific breeze blows my curls around my face.

There is nothing else except the moment

We are alive.
